Notice the compulsive urges in your life—as they arise feel in your body, is it possible to place your attention onto the feeling of the compulsion. It may be an avoidance of what you are feeling in the moment.
It can be as simple as the urge to pick up your phone to check your facebook, a compulsion to think, or a need to call someone, or to find something to do because there is a discomfort that arises in your body in the space of doing nothing, or perhaps there is an emotion or thought that’s antagonizing you. Sometimes it can take the form of wanting to eat, or drink, or smoke, have sex, or drink coffee.
It may be a compulsion and addiction to thinking. To being busy, inside or in your circumstances.
THIS IS OK. THIS IS NORMAL.
BUT THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE WAY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE CONTROLLED BY URGES
Be here now and take a deep breathe in.
Embrace this moment with all of your being as if it’s the only thing that exists
An urge is filled with a strong desire to fulfil a behaviour driven almost by a need to do it. The thoughts in the mind can often justify the desire. There is a discomfort that arises if the desire isn’t met. It may cause a subtle or strong bodily reaction.
Whatever form your urges take, bring awareness to the discomfort that’s driving the urge. Breathe. Inhale, exhale, consciously. Bring space to the moment and become aware that space was always already there.
Notice what’s driving your urges. Is it a discomfort with the present moment, a desire to escape the moment because of the emptiness you find there?
Embrace whatever shows up in this moment. Embrace the emotions, and dive into the emptiness with your whole being. There is so much power with being one with the empty feeling that sits within your being.
Being in the discomfort of emptiness may even set you free from your urges, your thoughts around the urge, your sense of need… even the emptiness itself.
Emptiness is space. Everyone feels a sense of emptiness because the feeling of space exists within everyone as beyond the physical, we are made up of space.
Do not hide from the emptiness, and do not hide from your urges or addictions. Face them with the power of your heart.
